Perhaps one of the most anticipated dramas this year is SBS' "Scarlet Heart: Goryeo," which stars singer/actress IU. Standing out among a cast filled with swoon-worthy flower boys must be difficult task, but IU proved to be standout and producer Kim Gyu Tae is confident in the show's leading lady.

At the press conference for "Scarlet Heart: Goryeo" Kim Gyu Tae commended IU's talent, saying she's a "genius."

"I think she will receive tremendous praise for her acting and passion for her work," Kim told the press, according to Soompi. "She really did a good job of embodying her character, and her energy surprised even me."

He added that IU's "artistic sense, ability to analyze the story, account for the acting details, and chemistry with the other actors" are exceptional. Kim also revealed that the young actress barely required any direction throughout filming as she went into filming fully prepare for the role.

"Scarlet Heart: Goryeo" carefully crafts a historical drama that's infused with romance and comedy. It's a formula that's proven to be effective all these years, and a sure hit for fans. The story is adapted from the Chinese novel written by Bu Bu Jing Xin. It tells the tale of Hae Soo (IU) who travels back in time to the Goryeo Dynasty during a total eclipse.

"It's the coming-of-age story of Hae Soo as she goes from being a teenager to a woman in her 20s during a 10-year period in Goryeo," Kim explained, Yonhap News reports. "It's about a woman with modern values adjusting to the values of the past and living at the heart of history."

IU's Hae Soo gets involve in a love triangle with the fourth prince, Wang So (Lee Joon Ki), and the eighth prince Wang Wook (Kang Ha Neul).

"Scarlet Heart: Goryeo" is the first drama series produced together with NBC Universal. It also stars K-pop stars Baekhyun of EXO and Seohyun of Girls' Generation. Also starring are Ji Soo, Nam Joo Hyuk, Hong Jong Hyun and Yoon Sun Woo.

The show's premiere on Aug. 29 will feature two back-to-back episodes. The third episode will air on Aug. 30.
