"Grey's Anatomy" season 13 may reveal that Owen's (Kevin McKidd) sister is still alive.

While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Shonda Rhimes said that she finds it interesting how some fans keep asking whether or not Owen's sister is still alive when it has already been revealed last season that she died.

"As for whether or not the sister is dead, I think that's interesting that people think that's a question, but that's an interesting question," she said.

In season 12, Owen told Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) the truth behind his falling out with Nathan Riggs (Martin Henderson).

According to him, Megan and Nathan were fighting as a couple at that time and this encouraged Owen's sister to take a flight to attend to one of her patients. However, there was a plane crash reported and Owen's sister may have been one of the casualties.

"Megan and I were working in the field unit. Meg said it was her patient. I told her no. We fought and finally - it was her patient. I would have done the same thing if it was mine. So I couldn't tell her no. And the helicopter never got there. No one knows what happened. Just disappeared... no trace," Nathan said.

However, fans believe that it's possible Megan is still alive primarily because Owen and Nathan never found her body.

Meanwhile, Henderson is expected to return to "Grey's Anatomy" season 13. Last season ended with Nathan and Owen seemingly patching things up and moving on from what happened to Megan.

However, new problems may arise and old wounds might be revisited if Megan will be revealed to be alive.

In the premiere episode for season 13, Owen and Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) will be focused mostly on their honeymoon. This means that they won't have plenty of storylines in the first episode.

There are rumors that Owen and Amelia may also be expecting their first child together towards the latter part of the season. However, Scorsone thinks that Rhimes wouldn't give her character a pregnancy storyline.

"Grey's Anatomy" season 13 will premiere on ABC on Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. ET.
