Even though the new season is supposed to start production in spring 2017, Kodansha wants to give this anime series a completely different course from its previous storyline, which explains the delays. The "Attack on Titan" fans already know that the production of season 1 was also delayed several times because its makers wanted to give manga multiple story arcs, ahead of its anime variation. However, with season 2 already diverging from its season 1 storyline, the problem seems to have been fixed already. The report reveals that the upcoming season will not follow manga series.

Meanwhile, there is also news that season 2 is not only a new storyline altogether, it is also likely to take the fans into the backstory of "Attack on Titan," giving insight into how the world beyond the protective wall came into being, protecting humans against Titans. Kodansha is also reportedly going to give season 2 new characters. However, the only thing that "Attack on Titan" season 2 will share with its previous season is the Survey Corps who kill the large titans.

According to a report by CrunchyRoll, the season 2 is said to launch in spring 2017. The announcement came during an Attack Festival live reading held at Tokyo International Forum. The report reveals that the production will begin in Spring 2017 and the episodes will be rolled out as they are produced, ensuring that the fans don't have to wait any longer than they already have.
