Williams has defeated the world's no. 47 through 6-2, 6-1 wearing a new white outfit with pink sleeves during the first daytime match for this tournament in New York.  The US tennis star humorously refers the fashionable clothing as 'Wonder woman sleeve' while addressing the post-match interview, ESPN reports.

Winning the first Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows in 1999, Serena now approached to clinch her 23rd singles title. If that happens, she will sweep over Steffi Graf as the most successful woman in the Open Era.

The six-time US Open title winner has been struggling hard to defend her no. 1 position. Fixture suggests, her next encounter will be with Kazakhstan's Yaroslava Shvedova who qualified for the fourth round defeating China's Zhang Shuai through 6-2, 7-5, reports BBC.

During the entire match, Williams has served at 121 mph exhibiting no sign for her shoulder injury and earned half a dozen of aces leading to 31 in total for this week. The best woman tennis player in the world for this moment has witnessed a single break point and become successful in saving it, in the just one hour enduring match.

Though not perfect from Tennis's conservative point of view, Patrick Mouratoglou, coach for Williams has expressed satisfaction over the exhibited performance. However, he acclaims her competitiveness ignoring little match-appearance in the court over the past two months.

In another match, elder sister Venus Williams has defeated Laura Siegemund, the world's no. 26 and also qualified to the fourth round. If both the sisters win two more matches, they will encounter each other in the semi final. Notably mentioning, Venus appears as the most aged player in the field at her 36.

Serena Williams has exhibited a meager court appearance during the last two months. Yet she has quite successfully won her 307th Grand Slam match while qualifying for the fourth round in the Us Open tournament and set up a new record. Enthusiasts are eagerly waiting for an 'all Williams semi final' since her elder sister Venus Williams, the most aged woman tennis player in the court, has also reached the fourth round.
