Middling squad Canada (1-3-1, 4 points) will try to advance to the fifth round of competitions in the 2018 FIFA World Cup CONCACAF qualifiers as they battle eliminated team El Salvador (0-3-2, 2 points) at the BC Place in Vancouver in the final matchday of the group stage on Tuesday, Sep. 6.
Start Time and Streaming Info
The game starts at 7:00 p.m. UTC+7. It can be viewed live online thru FuboTV.
Canada is currently at the third spot of the Group A table, three points behind second-place team Honduras, and also has a -5 goal difference as compared to the latter's. The Canucks will need to defeat El Salvador in this match while also hoping that Los Catrachos will fall to the mighty Mexicans in their own Matchday 6 affair with enough goal difference to overcome the Hondurans.
It would be a long shot, but head coach Benito Floro's side still has a chance.
The Canadians are coming off a sorry 1-2 defeat to Honduras in the previous matchday on the road at the Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano in San Pedro Sula to succumb to their third defeat in the tourney, via Goal.
The team was favored to win that match as they also netted the opening goal at the 35th minute with a goal from defender Manjrekar James from an assist by midfielder Scott Arfield.
However, Honduras was quick to answer back as midfielder Mario Martinez leveled the count in the first half stoppage time to preserve a 1-1 score at the halftime interval.
Midfielder Romell Quioto netted the winner at the 50th minute to put Canada on the brink of elimination.
Meanwhile, El Salvador is already eliminated from the World Cup CONCACAF qualifiers after a 1-3 crushing in the hands of Mexico during the previous matchday in a game held at their home ground of Estadio Cuscatlán in San Salvador, ESPN reported.
Head coach Ramón Maradiaga's squad managed to score the opening goal at the 24th minute via a spot kick from defender Alexander Larin, but it was all the home team could do with the Mexicans pulverizing them with three goals in the second half.
Only the top two teams at the end of the group stage will advance in the fifth and final round of qualifiers called the Hex. Once, in the Hex, the top three teams after the round will then qualify to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
