Following the release of a teaser video about its upcoming concept car, Mitsubishi has officially released photos of the XR-PHEV II crossover SUV. The car will officially make its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

The XR-PHEV II is an upgraded version of the XR-PHEV concept car which was first introduced at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show. Mitsubishi has been working hard in the past two years to redesign the car and the result features a new front end look with a twin-slat radiator grille. Mitsubishi also gave the new car a lower bumper with complete metal A-pillars and a redesigned rear fascia that holds an air diffuser with additional strips of chrome trimming.

In addition to the overhaul on the XR-PHEV II's outside look, Mitsubishi also gave the car an extensive upgrade on the inside.  The XR-PHEV now sports a more futuristic cockpit with a three-spoke steering wheel and a full-colored touch screen display that pops out on the top of the dashboard. The switchgear on the console was also replaced by a touch-sensitive surface with a controller knob.

The official specifications of the car have not been released yet but Mitsubishi hints that the car will be powered by a newly developed plug-in drivetrain with an internal combustion engine and an electric motor that runs at 160-horsepower, according to Automobile Mag. Additional information added that the car will be nature friendly as it will emit less that 40 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer.

Mitsubishi said that the XR-PHEV II concept will no doubt pave the way to a mass-produced production model in the future, however the Japan-based company did not offer an official time frame about its plans, according to Left Lane News.
