Leipzig, who finished second to SC Freiburg in 2. Bundesliga last term, opened their German first division stint with an impressive 2-2 draw against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on the road at the WIRSOL Rhein-Neckar-Arena on Aug. 28, via SkySports.

Following a goalless first half of play, Hoffenheim midfielder Lukas Rupp finally broke the deadlock ten minutes after the restart to give the hosts a 1-0 lead in the match.

Head coach Ralph Hasenhüttl's squad immediately leveled the count, though, with a right-footed shot from midfielder Dominik Kaiser from the center of the box off an assist by teammate Diego Demme.

Die Kraichgauer grabbed the lead once again at the 83rd minute as forward Mark Uth directed Sebastian Rudy's shot towards the opposing net following a fast break.

However, the Red Bulls are not to be denied of a point in the standings as they scored the equalizer right at the stroke of full time courtesy of a short-range left-footed strike by Austrian striker Marcel Sabitzer.

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund showed that they are still a powerhouse squad despite the departures of Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Manchester United and Ilkay Gundogan to Manchester City as it turned back Mainz 05, 2-1, at the Signal Iduna Park on Aug. 27, Goal reported.

Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was the star of the match as he netted a brace at the 17th and 89th minutes while Mainz got a consolation goal during stoppage time with a header from Japanese forward Yoshinori Muto coming from a cross by teammate Pablo de Blasis.

Die Borussen will be tested against Leipzig, but head coach Thomas Tuchel's side is still projected to prevail.
