As AMD continues to market its current Polaris-based graphics cards RX 480 and RX 470, rumors have started surfacing online about the next-generation graphics card, the Radeon RX 490. After Nvidia released its Pascal-powered GeForce GTX 1080, attention turned on AMD to see how it will counter the Nvidia's top graphics card.

Currently, not much is known about the upcoming Radeon RX 490 from AMD. While some sources suggest that the manufacturer will announce the RX 490 later this year, others have it that it will roll out during the first half of 2017, according to iSports Times.

The publication explained that the release date at the end of this year was based on a promo posted on Reddit. However, during their investor presentation in August, AMD focused on its Polaris-based graphics cards like RX 480 and RX 470, but there was no mention of the RX 490. This could be an indicator that the upcoming graphics card will be based on the company's next generation Vega architecture as opposed to the current Polaris architecture.

It is believed that AMD will channel their efforts on marketing the current line of Polaris graphics cards before the end of the year. The company is gearing up to release the Vega during the first half of 2017, and many believe that the Radeon RX 490 may be unveiled during the time as well. The company's senior director of global marketing and public relations, Chris Hook, even posted a photo of the venue for the Vega's launch on Facebook.

Apart from being a Vega-based graphics card, it is rumored that the upcoming RX 490 will also support 4K resolution and virtual reality (VR) displays, which is expected from a premium graphics card. The RX 490 will reportedly have a computing power of 9830 GigaFlops and a 1200MHz GPU base clock with a 350 (1400) MHz memory clock (Effective), according to Video Cardz.

Furthermore, the RX 490 will ship with a memory size of 16384MB, a 4096-bit memory bus width, and a memory bandwidth of 716.8 GB/s. AMD is yet to make anything official about the RX 490, and therefore, this information is mere speculation and should be taken with a grain of salt.
