"I'm of two minds," Doherty said. "As a tremendous fan of 'Game of Thrones,' I was really bummed to see her go. As an 'Elementary' writer, it's hard not to get your gears turning."

Dormer appeared in the first three seasons of the CBS crime drama. She portrayed the role of Sherlock Holmes' (Jonny Lee Miller) lover, Irene Adler, who later ended up being his nemesis, Jamie Moriarty.

Sherlock nemesis was last seen in "Elementary" Season 3 episode 14 titled "The Female of the Species," which aired on Feb. 12, 2015. In the episode, Jamie Moriarty wrote a letter to Sherlock while in jail, cautioning him of the on-going game battle between them.

Since the character was not killed off in the series, many avid fans are hopeful to see Dormer reprise her role as Sherlock's nemesis. In a previous post on Reddit AMA forum, the actress mentioned his interest in returning to the procedural drama series.

"I love playing Jamie Moriarty!" Dormer wrote. "And I love being in New York, I hope very much to return. I'm just lulling Sherlock into a false sense of security."

Based on the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's character Sherlock Holmes, "Elementary" follows a recuperating drug addict, who is a former consultant to Scotland Yard. His father, Morland Holmes (John Noble) hired a former surgeon, Dr. Joan Watson (Lucy Liu), to help Sherlock in his rehabilitation.

Joan and Sherlock eventually begin working together in solving New York City Police Department's most impossible cases. Other stars include Jon Michael Hill as Detective Marcus Bell, Aidan Quinn as Capt. Thomas "Tommy" Gregson and Rhys Ifans as Sherlock's brother, Mycroft Holmes, among others.

"Elementary," which premiered on Sept. 27, 2012, was renewed by CBS on March 25 for Season 5. More details about the crime series will be revealed soon.
