Officials from the Shanxi and Russian Museums recently engaged in a talk discussing the institutions' agreement to hold exchanges of high-value artworks and collections.

The exchange agreement was reached when Russia's Vice-Provincial Governor Zhang Fuming and representatives from the Shanxi Museum, the province's Foreign Affairs Office, and Culture Relics Bureau accompanied Russia's State Historical Museum's curator, Alexey, during his Feb.11-12 visit to the Chinese museum.

Together with colleagues, Alexey paid a visit to Shanxi Museum to take a look at the exhibitions offered by the institution. The delegates also checked out the museum's design and arrangement, space utilization as well as its relics storage.

In May last year, Zhang headed a Shanxi cultural relics delegation to Russia and visited the Moscow-based menagerie. The Chinese visitors were impressed with the museum's collection of significant artworks, leading to the establishment of cooperative ties between the two.

The State Historical Museum was opened to public in 1883. The historical establishment was completed in the span of 10 years, making it one of Russia's oldest museums.

Apart from being a must-visit art institution, the museum also serves as a major educational quarter in the area. For years now, it has been regarded as one of Moscow's major landmarks.

The historical museum houses around 4.2 million objects and over 68 million pages of historical records fortifying the glory of Russia's cultural heritage.

It also features 48 exhibition halls dedicated for the state's politics, military, economy, arts, culture and social life of various periods throughout Russia's history.
