The 16-episode webtoon "W Two Worlds" airs its finale today, Sept. 14. Fans want to know how the series would end since it could be an indicator if a season 2 is on the way. Teasers showed that Kang Chul was shot.

While waiting for an announcement from MBC if a second season would happen, fans of Lee Jong-Suk and Han Hyo-Joo could, in the meantime, content themselves with the extra episode which airs on Saturday, Sept. 17. The extra episode features behind-the-scene footage of the drama, reported Chatt Sports Net.

With a formal announcement likely to be made by the end of 2016, a speculated release date for a season 2 would be in 2017. In the absence of confirmation, fans can only wish that if MBC would produce a second season and the two stars would reprise their roles as Kang Chul and Oh-Yeon Joo.

When the show premiered on July 20, one of the speculations is the show could equal the popularity of 2016’s monster Hallyu “Descendants of the Sun.” However, it apparently failed to reach the almost 40 percent viewership record achieved by the KBS 2TV blockbuster, although “W Two Worlds” obviously fared better than the unlamented “Uncontrollably Fond” which suffered from one-digit viewership numbers.

Episode 5, aired on Aug. 3, was the show’s highest, getting a 17.8 percent viewership in the Seoul National Capital Area, according to TNmS Ratings and placing 1st. Until Episode 15, shown on Sept. 8, the webtoon enjoyed two-digit viewership ratings from both TNmS Ratings and AGB Nielsen, except for Episode 1 when it was 9.9 percent in TNmS nationwide rating, 8.6 percent in AGB Nielsen nationwide rating and 9.5 percent for Episode 2 in AGB nationwide rating.

Its worst ranking was 17th place for Episode 1 on AGB Nielsen nationwide, two 10th place finish in Seoul National Capital Area and one 12th place finish in AGB Nielsen nationwide. Other than those four instances, “W Two Worlds” was always in the top 9 rank which could be reasons enough for MBC to consider making a season 2.
