After Yoshihiro Togashi came back from his long hiatus, the fans of ''Hunter X Hunter'' manga series were happy again. However, after writing ten chapters, he is again on a break. The fans of the anime series are waiting for season 3, and it is expected that the storyline of season 3 will revolve around ''Dark Continent Arc.''
The last chapter 360 was published by Shueisha on June 30, 2016 and Togashi, the creator and illustrator went on a long hiatus again due to his failing health. Some sources have revealed that the chapter 361 onwards will be released in 2017. It is also reported that the publishers Viz Media might severe its ties with the writer Togashi so that they can continue publishing this extremely popular series without frequent interruptions. They are planning to hire other writers to continue the manga chapters.
According to fandom post, on Aug. 26, 2016, Viz Media streamed the chapters of episode 79-91 of ''Hunter X Hunter.'' Between Oct.16, 1999 and Mar. 31, 2001, the producers Nippon Animation of Japan had broadcast 62 episodes on Fuji Television from season 1 of the anime series. Later Viz Media licensed the distribution of these episodes in the regions 1 market which includes the United States, Canada and the U.S Territories. They released four DVD boxed-sets between Dec. 9, 2008 and Dec. 1, 2009.
In the first episode of season 1, which was aired on Oct. 16, 1999 was named as "Tabi iku shōnen × Kaze no oto wo nokoshite" which means "A Boy Setting Out for a Journey × Leaving Behind the Sound of the Wind.'' In this episode the protagonist of the series Gon Freecss was saved by a stranger from a fox-bear in the forest. He stopped the stranger from killing the Fox-bear cub, and takes it home and starts raising it.
During the same encounter, the stranger had told him about the famous hunter exam. Gon promised to take part in the exam when he is old enough. The first thirty chapters were a part of the ''Hunter Exam arc'' in the manga series.
The second episode which was aired on Oct. 23, 1999, was entitled "Deai × Tomadoi × Shukko" which means "Encounter × Hesitation × Departure'' in English. In this episode the viewers saw Gon's aunt who was his guardian approves him to take the hunter exam. She first tests his skills using a special rod from his father Gino who was a famous hunter and had left Gon with his aunt Mito. Gon leaves to catch the ship to the town to attend the hunter exam and meets Leorio, another fellow hunter who was going to the town to take the same hunter exam. They take down a cruel animal show on the way and manage to catch the ship which they had almost missed.
According to RocketNews 24, which contacted Weekly Shonen Jump's publisher, Shueisha, the manga series is in hiatus again. However, from the existing material season 3 of the anime series can be made. Fans are waiting for the news of the anime series to be aired for season 3.
