Epson released a new device called the Fastfoto scanner that is capable of scanning a photo per second. Aside from scanning, it can also eliminate the red eye, brings back the genuine color of the photos and a lot more.

Photo scanners do not belong to the list of exciting gadgets due to its bulky size and somewhat slow process. But think again, Epson just released FastFoto FF-640, the world's fastest photo scanner that scans as fast as one photo per second, Digital Trends reported.

The new Epson scanner is said to be capable of handling fragile photos without any risk of damaging them. It simultaneously captures images along with the handwritten notes on the back of the photo.

Unlike the old fashioned scanners, FastFoto FF-640 can instantly share the scanned photos through the social media or send it to Dropbox or Google Drive. The device also has its own software that creates two images: the original image and another that is enhanced with Smart Photo Fix (SPX) Technology.

FastFoto can detect the photo's size and aligns them, so there is no need for cropping the images after scanning. While Epson recommends stacking the photos from the smallest to largest size, the scanner works regardless of how the photos are arranged.

The FastFoto can also scan non-photo materials like business cards, greeting cards, receipts and text documents. It has a resolution of 5,100 x 8,400 pixels and outputs 24-bit color. It is capable of scanning up to 8.5 inches of paper and support panoramic media stretches up to 20 inches. However, scanning Polaroid prints is not recommended as it is thicker and stiffer than regular photo.

The printer's feeder can accommodate 30 photos, capturing the front and the back in a single pass. Images will then be saved in a dedicated hard drive, organize them and can be searched through metadata, and other capture information, as reported by the PC Mag.

Mike Isgrig, vice president of North America consumer sales and marketing at Epson stated that there are billions of un-scanned photos in the U.S. today. Every year, tons of photos are lost to floods, fires and other natural disasters. It is important to protect and preserve the family's memories.

The Epson FastFotoFF-640 is compatible with Windows and Mac OS. It is now available in stores for $649.99.
