The South Korean action-suspense film "The Age of Shadows" that stars Gong Yoo has reached an important milestone with its viewership count of more than 6 million. The "Train to Busan" actor's new movie has even surpassed box office numbers posted by the Hollywood star-studded film "The Magnificent Seven."

Yoo's latest espionage film "The Age of Shadows" has managed to draw in more than 6 million moviegoers during its second week showing. Warner Bros. Korea has revealed that 6,000,806 movie fans came to see the film as of Sept. 18, Sunday, Yonhap News reported. The said number marked a 1 million increase as compared to the viewer count posted on Sept. 17, Saturday.

The said movie is also expected to reach the 10 million viewership level, as indicated in the same report. In the South Korean film industry, fourteen movies have previously attained the said viewer count. These movies include the hit historical film "Roaring Currents" with 17.6 million viewers, as well as "Ode to My Father" and "The Attorney" with 14.2 million and 11.3 million movie viewers, respectively.

On the other hand, "The Train to Busan" actor's latest film also topped the box office race during South Korea's Chuseok holiday week. The said holiday is one of the Asian country's important national events to celebrate the autumn harvest festival. The film "The Age of Shadows" earned $26 million during the Chuseok holiday weekend period that started on Sept. 14, Wednesday, until Sept. 18, Sunday, according to Variety.

The Warner Bros. Korean film has earned a total of $44.4 million since it first debuted in early September. KOBIS, the box office tracking service of The Korean Film Council, has revealed that more than half of the movie earnings posted during the said Chuseok holiday period came from the said film, as indicated in the same report.

The same report has even highlighted how Yoo's action suspense film has topped other Hollywood movies such as "Ben Hur," as well as "The Magnificent Seven." The biblical flick "Ben Hur" garnered box office numbers of $6.69 during the same Chuseok holiday period. Meanwhile, the western movie "The Magnificent Seven" that stars Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Korean actor Lee Byung Hun and more has posted box office earnings of $5.11 million.
