Twitter has reportedly simplified its service and revised rules for 140-character limitation on tweets starting Sept. 19.

The new rules allow users to paste contents like videos, photos, GIFs, polls and quotes from other tweets. The inscribed contents will not be counted as characters, TechCrunch reported. The revision on cutting down counts for 140-characters has been announced first in May.

The implementation of the new rule has been delayed, which aimed to offer sufficient time to the developer community for necessary adoption. It allows users to enjoy more room in making their tweets more interactive, Financial Post reported .

The recent change in rules implies Twitter's intention for simplifying some of its confusing features. Stagnant growth record and rumors in Wall Street over its possible acquisition have been analyzed as the contributing factor for the rules revision.

Twitter has been witnessing stagnant growth record during the recent days and feels the necessity for simplification of its service for the new users. Recently, it has simplified its rules and relaxed 140-character counting phenomenon in a view to propel up the growth.

Prior enacting the new rules, users have reportedly faced hurdles in replying to multiple users at once. Now, names of someone mentioned while replying publicly will no longer be counted. However, all the exemptions will be made available for the users gradually.

The permissible limit for 140-characters has been introduced since the launch of Twitter around ten years back. At that time, users have been compelled to submit tweets through text messages due to the non-existence of smartphones.

Cell phone network service providers have imposed 140-character barrier for a sending single text message. That particular restriction has provoked Twitter in developing its own parameter for 140-characters to comply with the custom.
