The release of "Lucid Dream" is going to take longer than expected. After Park Yoochun's sexual assault, the release date of the highly anticipated thriller film has been pushed back to January 2017.
"Lucid Dream," which was initially scheduled to hit theaters this fall, was put on hold after the 30-year-old actor became a subject of a string of sexual assault allegations in June. Several newsoutlet speculated that Park's rape allegation, which he was acquitted in July, had constrained the producers to delay the release and edit his part out.
A production staff member then admitted that the sexual assault controversy really forced them to rearrange the best date for the film's release. However, the staff member dismissed reports claiming that the scenes of "The Girl Who Sees Smells" actor in the movie will be removed.
"The role played by Park is crucial to the storyline," the staff member explained, according to local newsoutlet Sports Chosun, as cited by The Kpop Herald. "It was impossible to strip his part out. We had to wait until Park was free from the charge and reschedule the date."
In the film, Park will play a mysterious man named Go Soo. Though in-depth details about the role were kept under wraps, it was learned that the said character is the assistant of the male lead, Dae-Ho (Ko Soo).
The unnamed staff member then revealed that "Lucid Dream" will open in theaters on Jan. 4, 2017. The fantasy-thriller movie began filming on April 6, 2015, has been in post-production phase from the last couple of months.
Helmed by Kim Joon Sung, the story of "Lucid Dream" heavily revolves around a father, Dae Ho, who lost his son three years ago, Han Cinema has learned. Through a lucid dream, he finds a clue about his son's sudden disappearance.
