Things got very intense in the midseason finale of "Suits" Season 6, which saw the exit of Jessica Pearson from Pearson Specter Litt. Jessica's resignation follows her successful defense of Leonard Bailey, an inmate who was about to be put on death row.

Jessica's exit came as a shocker to viewers. She's been one of the show's heavyweights, known for being the strong and steadfast Iron Lady of the firm.

Speaking to Deadline, creator Aaron Korsh explained that actress Gina Torres, who played Jessica, "wanted to discuss a grateful exit from the show." He said the actress was going through some things in her life and needed to live primarily in Los Angeles instead of Toronto where "Suits" filmed.

The decision to let her go was mutual. Torres told EW that seeing Jessica leave midseason was something Korsh and she have been "banting about for a while."

"Well, he wasn't that happy about it [Laughs], 'cause we all love Jessica, but he's been awesome, as has been USA, about letting me come home for awhile and tend to my life," Torres said.

Jessica has now left for Chicago, but Korsh isn't exactly closing the doors on the character. When asked if there are plans to bring her back in the second half of Season 6, Korsh said right now they are more focused on formulating the rest of season 6.

The big question now is: what will happen to Pearson Specter Litt? After all, Jessica was one of the pillars of the firm. There's still Robert Zane's offer to merge firms, and Korsh hinted that's something that might be considered.

"And then Louis and Harvey are going to have a little bit of a struggle as to what they're going to do moving forward without Jessica, as you would imagine the two of them," Korsh explained. "There's going to be a little conflict over who's running the show and what they're going to do and what direction they're going to take."

When asked what she will miss the most about playing Jessica, Torres shared, "Often when you see a woman of power portrayed on television, there's a compromise given, and as tough as nails as Jessica is and has been, her soft side is always on display, her femininity is always on display. So, I'm going to miss that."
