As expected, “Descendants of the Sun” actor Song Joong-ki led the awardees for the 2016 APAN Awards on Sunday night.
Soompi reported that he received the Grand Excellence Award (Daesang) for “Descendants of the Sun. He and co-star Song Hye Kyo also won the Best Couple Award. However, she was not present at the event since Song Hye Kyo is overseas, based on her Instagram posts.
“This is my first time receiving such a big prize and I don’t know what to do. ‘Descendants of the Sun’ has received so much love until now, but I wouldn’t be here if not for the hard work of my managers,” Song Joong-ki said.
He added, “There are also amazing senior actors here against whom I cannot even begin to be compared. I will work hard to show a good side of myself like my sunbaes from now on.”
The APAN awards follows the receipt of the couple of the Most Popular Male and Female in TV Awards at the 52nd Baeksang Art Awards in June.
“Descendants of the Sun” also got other awards on Sunday. The series won Drama of the Year, while Jin Goo tied with “W’s” Kim Ui Sung for the Best Actor award and Kim Ji Won tied with Ye Ji Won of “Another Oh Hae Young” for the Best Actress award.
