In the world of "Game of Thrones," nothing is impossible. The show has surprised fans in the most unthinkable ways possible and everyone's bracing for what's to come in Season 7. An old theory, however, has rekindled the possibility of Jon Snow and Sansa Stark's marriage in the new season.
Sansa and Jon have been through a lot individually throughout "Game of Thrones" six-season run. After being separated for years, it was only in Season 6 that the half-siblings were reunited in Castle Black.
After successfully reclaiming Winterfell, Jon Snow was declared the new King of the North. It was also revealed in "Game of Thrones" Season 6 that Jon is indeed not the bastard son of Ned Stark, but is in fact that son of Ned's sister Lyanna and Rheager Targaryen.
A theory posited by YouTuber Alt Shift X suggests that George R.R. Martin's prequel novel, "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms," introduced that Ashford Tournament in which five men from different houses compete with one another to win the heart of Lady Ashford.
As reported by The Independent, the four houses could identify the house from which those married or paired to Sansa are from - Joffrey Baratheon, Loras Tyrell, Ramsay Bolton and Tyrion Lannister. The fifth could be Jon Snow, representing House Targaryen.
On the other hand, Winter Is Coming also noted that some of Jon and Sansa's scenes in "Game of Thrones" Season 6 were indicative of their growing relationship. In one scene, Jon promised Sansa that he'll protect him.
How best do you protect your sister from her evil former husband? Go to war, of course. And go to war is what exactly Jon did.
Interestingly, a Jon and Sansa marriage could benefit Winterfell, which has always been the home turf of the Starks. Having Sansa as her wife would strengthen Jon's leadership and would secure the support of the North. Since he's a Targaryen, Jon also has a claim to the Iron Throne. If ever he decides to stake his claim, he would need the entire North to back up his campaign. Essentially, they would be Westeros' next power couple.
"Game of Thrones" Season 7 will premiere on HBO in 2017.
