Since Apple will be celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the iPhone, it is expected that the new device will come with major redesigns and upgraded features. One of the consistent rumors with respect to the physicality of the iPhone 8 is that it will come with an edge-to-edge display and curved glass on the front and back.

Moreover, Forbes reported that Apple may be switching from LCD to OLED, which allows the company to create a thinner iPhone that doesn't consume a lot of battery. In celebration of the glass body that made the iPhone 4, Apple is reportedly planning to re-adopt the same material for the iPhone 8.

Upgrades to biometrics

It appears that Apple won't stop developing biometrics feature for the iPhone. Following the success of 3D touch and fingerprint scanner, there are rumors that iPhone 8 will feature iris scanning. This adds another layer of security that's difficult to hack and will prevent users from abusing the Home button.

Wireless charging

Apple is beginning the wireless revolution by taking out the earphone jack from the iPhone 7. The earphones are now completely wireless and sold separately from the smartphone itself. Although users were divided by this new stand, Apple will reportedly carry it over to the iPhone 8 and even go so far as to remove the Lightning port. According to Mac Rumors, Apple has been hiring engineers to develop a stable system for wireless charging.

Camera

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that the dual-lens camera used in the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus will be the same cameras used for the iPhone 8. An additional feature to the camera would be the optical image stabilization, which is commonly incorporated in both wide-angle and telephoto lens.

Release date

In keeping with tradition, the iPhone 8 is expected to come out in September 2017.
