John Cena is slowly transitioning to into a part-time role this year after more than a decade of dominance in the WWE. The latest rumors suggest that Cena might be leaving the WWE for Hollywood and he is the frontrunner for a role in an upcoming Marvel film.

The 39-year-old superstar has been the face of the WWE since winning his first WWE title in 2005 but 2016 is a different story. He missed the first half of the year due to a shoulder injury followed by a successful feud against A.J. Styles.

The difference in the feud against Styles is Cena came out as a loser and he put over The Phenomenal One. He recently came back to try and win his 16th world championship at No Mercy on Sunday but he failed to do so.

According to The Inquisitr, Cena is set to miss the rest of the year following the October 11 edition of SmackDown Live. He will be filming the second season of "American Grit," a reality-television show on FOX that has been successful.

Cena has also gotten several roles in Hollywood which has caused him to miss shows but it is seen as a great move for the WWE. The 15-time WWE World Champion is using movies to help the company get more casual fans.

WWE superstars going to Hollywood is not something new since the highest-paid actor of 2016 is Dwayne Johnson, who made his name wrestling as The Rock during the "Attitude Era" of wrestling. Dave Bautista, who wrestled as Batista, also has a budding Hollywood career with roles in movies such as "Spectre" and "Guardians of the Galaxy."

Cena's TV show "American Grit" is shown on FOX which owns 21st Century Fox, who recently got the rights to make Marvel's comic book series, "Superior." The comic series creator, Mark Millar, recently expressed his interest in giving the titular role to Cena.

In a recent appearance on Live with Kelly, Cena was asked if he is interested in co-hosting the show. He said that he would gladly take it which will lead to him cutting more dates from his current WWE schedule.

"I'll answer the phone, but I'm not going to sit by the phone. It's really cool to sit down with a suit and tie in the morning and then fly to SmackDown Live and be a WWE Superstar," Cena said.

It should be noted that Cena might be joking about the Live with Kelly hosting gig but a Hollywood role, especially for a Marvel film, is hard to turn. Nevertheless, Cena's career is slowly winding down and it is not bad to see him as a superhero.
