Google Chrome users will be receiving an update for the browser that will lead to a significant improvement in how the program consumes RAM on both PC and smartphones.

The browser is one of the most popular ones in the Internet because it simply gets the job done and more but it is currently a resource hog. Several Chrome tabs could lead to more than 1GB in RAM usage which can already wreck some systems with less than 4GB memories.

Google is now addressing the problem with the upcoming Google Chrome 55 update thanks to a new JavaScript engine that can slash RAM usage significantly, Android Headlines has learned. All of processes that require JavaScript will have their RAM usage cut in half which will help a long way considering that most websites have some form of JavaScript function.

Most Chrome users complain that their browsers use too much RAM even if they are just browsing two to three tabs. The reason for the high RAM usage is that the Chromium team decided to split all of the processes within Chrome in order to avoid the browser from crashing if it cannot handle one tab among the rest.

The search engine giant showed in a chart that the Google Chrome 55 performed better with a 66 percent reduction in RAM consumption when it browsed articles in The New York Times website, ZDNet reported. There are also other tasks that were shown in the chart and most of them had over 50 percent reductions with the usage of RAM.

PC users are not the only ones that will benefit from the new Google Chrome RAM update. Smartphone users will also be receiving the patch which means they will also have significantly improved experiences when browsing on their mobile devices.

In addition, the new Chrome 55 update will have a "garbage collector" feature that helps in the reduction of RAM usage. What it does is that it cleans out any unused memory from the browser so that it can be allocated again for other processes.

Google Chrome users can expect the official rollout of the Chrome 55 update on December 6 across all supported devices. The Chrome Beta channel will be receiving it first around the middle of November.
