Sony has taken note of Niantic’s success with “Pokemon Go” and now plans to take advantage of the company’s success with mobile games of its own. The company is reportedly working on five new games set for release in 2018.

The latest report tied up to Sony’s plan is nothing new. The electronics giant had a similar plan to release mobile games before but this time around, things are more serious, Forbes reported.

Sony’s intent to focus on mobile gaming is inspired by the success of “Pokemon Go”. With the game booming, the company hopes to enjoy the same success with the focus in Japan and nearby Asian markets.

The belief is that Sony will focus on old game titles first before venturing out to new intellectual properties. While it seems almost certain that they will try to employ the same augmented reality schematics, there could be an added perk that would tie up the planned mobile games to their PlayStation game consoles.

Sony has yet to name the old titles they plan to release. With no official word, the belief is that the company will try out the game titles used on the PS3 and PS Vita. There is no timetable set for now though there is a big chance that this will be announced at the Sony Playstation Experience 2016 which happens on Dec. 3 and 4 at the Anaheim Convention Center according to the PlayStation Blog.

The event is expected to show off something similar to E3 and allow gamers to check out the games available for the PlayStation VR and PlayStation VR which are coming out in October and November respectively.

It remains to be seen if Sony can catch up to the success that Niantic has done with “Pokemon Go” as they try to capture a chunk of the gaming sector niche. The augmented reality game continues to grow despite several flaws in the game leading to erratic active player count.

Sony will pin its hopes on ForwardWorks to raise their stakes, a division based in Tokyo, Japan. The division will have lots of ground to cover which will hopefully render profitable results.
