Born Marshall Bruce Mathers III in St. Joseph, Missouri, on Oct. 17, 1972, Eminem grew up in Detroit, Michigan. He went on to become one of the best rappers of all time and the star of the 2002 musical drama film by the late director Curtis Hanson.

Written by Scott Silver, "8 Mile" is about a young Caucasian rapper named Jimmy "B-Rabbit" Smith Jr. (Eminem). Living in a mobile home park in Warren, Michigan, he tries to launch a career in rap, which is dominated by African Americans.
