A wrong snap on the neck of a former Playboy model could have caused the death of Katie May, also known as the “Queen of Snapchat.”
According to the death certificate issued by the LA County Coroner, the 34-year-old’s cause of death in February was a neck artery torn by her chiropractor. She initially had a stroke in LA, but three days later, after the visit to the chiropractor, May died, New York Daily News reported.
The neck injury was caused by a blunt force that tore the former model’s left vertebral artery which cut off the blood flow to May’s brain, according to TMZ.
However, while the coroner said the injury was sustained because of a neck manipulation done by the chiropractor, May’s death was considered accidental. Ed Winters, the LA assistant chief coroner, listed May’s cause of death as “infarction of brain,” People reported.
Christina Passanisi, longtime friend of May – who could hardly move at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after the chiropractic session – should not have her neck adjusted. She cited a nurse that cases like what happened to May occurs all the time at the chiropractor’s clinic.
On Jan. 29, one week before she died, May shared on social media that she hurt her neck during a photoshoot. She tweeted, “Pinched a nerve in my neck on a Photoshoot and got adjusted this morning. It really hurts! Any home remedy suggestions loves? XOXO.”
She actually recovered from her first stroke, but May became brain dead after the second stroke. Her family and friends even witnessed the medics take off the former model’s life support.
