A special treat for owners of Tesla's Model S is that keying in a special access code in the dashboard allows them to transform their car into a virtual Lotus Esprit car-submarine mode from the 1977 James Bond film "The Spy Who Loved Me." This feature from Tesla causes the Bond car to appear on the dashboard, and then "drop" 20,000 leagues.

"Leagues" is a reference to the French writer Jules Verne's 1870 book, according to Daily Mail. His science fiction novel tells the story of Captain Nemo and Nautilus, his submarine.

The  Bond vehicle concept is from Tesla's Chief Product Architect, Elon Musk.  In October 2013, he spent $866,000 at an auction, to buy the original vehicle that is featured in the movie.

A former Navy Seal built the vehicle that had the nickname "Wet Nellie" during the filming of the Bond film. Its cost for construction was $100,000, or $500,000 today.

The filmmaker used several Lotus Esprits when filming the movie. The one that Musk bought was the car-sub model.

To transform your Tesla Model S electric car into a bond sub, you simply have to hold down the T button. Then you must type in James Bond's number code: 007.

Nearly a year ago the Easter Egg was introduced with a software upgrade for the vehicle. Interestingly, instructions on how to access the feature recently appeared at sources such as YouTube and Instagram, according to Engadget.

While owners of the Model S can imagine that they are driving in a car-sub, Musk wants to own the real thing. He is planning to transform his Esprit into an actual car-sub hybrid. Will he drive up to people and then introduce himself as "Musk, Elon Musk?"
