The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 just got new company on the list of smartphones that burn The latest entry is the new iPhone 7 from Apple.
Mat Jones, a surf instructor from New South Wales in Australia, said on Thursday his one-week-old iPhone 7 burned inside his vehicle while he surfed. Jones wrapped the phone in a pair of pants and left the gadget on his car’s seat.
When he returned from surfing, Jones found the iPhone 7 burnt and his car fire damaged, Mashable reported. He recorded the incident as evidence that the Apple phone has something similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 more than just physical or technological features.
Jones insisted that he did not damage the smartphone or use a cheap charger since he purchased Apple’s flagship device.
Upon returning to his vehicle, the inside was not visible from the outside because the windows were black. Ash came out from the pants he used to wrap the iPhone 7 which was melting.
Mashable pointed out there is no evidence the phone exploded and cited overcharging, puncturing and severely damaging the device could cause the iPhone 7 to catch fire. Leaving the gadget inside a very hot environment, such as inside a closed car on a summer – it is spring in Australia now – increases the chance of a phone to burn.
Apple decline to comment but said it is aware of Jones’s complaint and is investigating the incident, Yahoo News reported.
