The Nintendo Switch (codenamed NX) release date is set March 2017 but the juicy details on the things to unpack with the hybrid console have been generously coming out. Still a few months away from the unboxing but the hardware specs, features, game titles and pricing for the total Switch package are fast shaping up.
In a series of reports by WCCFTech, Nintendo fans can supposedly expect the Switch to host Square Enix games, boast of remote touchscreen controller with 720p display and support micro SDXC cards instead of the old-school USB drive.
Square Enix developing for the console formerly known as the NX was hinted directly by Final Fantasy XV game director Hajime Tabata. While Tabata has earlier made clear that no plans yet for FFXV to come to the Switch, he recently expressed interest of supporting the new platform but perhaps with other game titles.
"It's been a while since I think I'd like to do good games on a Nintendo machine, so if Nintendo Switch can be the opportunity, I will be delighted," Tabata was quoted by WCCFTech as saying.
While it may be premature to assume that the Switch will soon impress with Final Fantasy game titles, fans can at least rejoice on the latest round of leaked hardware specs for the device. And one of which indicated that the game device will have a 6.2-inch 10-point multi-touch remote controller with 720p display resolution.
As for when the game is being played on the TV screen, the report did not indicate the screen resolution designed by Nintendo though it should be a toss between 720p and 1080p.
Another hardware clue from WCCFTech is about on storage and the Switch will reportedly rely on micro SDXC card and not on the conventional USB disk. The reason for the choice is for gamers to enjoy seamless gaming experience when docking and undocking the Switch.
"Nintendo wants to ensure that players can at any time disconnect the handheld from the dock without having to wait for games, save data or other information to sync first. Nintendo's solution to this is to only allow data to be stored on the handheld, so that any time you disconnect the handheld all the same data is available to the player," the report said.
For this specific feature, the Nintendo Switch is said to support up to 128GB of micro SDXC card.
Lastly, BGR reported that an event penciled for January next year will reveal the pricing and exact release date details of the Nintendo Switch, including the console's launch game titles. Rumors say that on its March 2017 rollout, the Switch will start selling between $250 and $300.
