Is she crafty or a cheater to the max? A Shenzhen woman nicknamed “Xiaoli” is the talk of Chinese social media following a blog published on Tian Ya YiDi, a popular blogging platform in China, which shared the story of how Xiaoli bought a house with minimum capital except charm.

The woman, according to Nextshark, has 20 boyfriends whom she all asked to buy her an iPhone 7. All the 20 men complied, spending each more than several thousands of yuan or at least $1,000 to give in to her request.

Xiaoli then sold all the Apple-made smartphones to Hui Shou Bao, a mobile phone recycling site in China, for 120,000 yuan or $17,700. She then used the money as downpayment for a countryside house.

The story, written by a writer who used the pseudonym “Proud Qiaoba,” which BBC described as like a “pretty average airport romance novel.” Xiaoli is her officemate who showed to her other co-workers her new house and told them how she raised the downpayment.

Proud Qiaoba wrote that Xiaoli “is not from a wealthy family. Her mum is a housewife and her dad is a migrant worker, and she is the oldest daughter. Her parents are getting old and she might be under a lot pressure hoping to buy them a house... But it's still unbelievable that she could use this method!”

Her story is trending on Weibo, China’s microblogging site, with the hashtag #20mobilesforahouse. The hashtag has been used more than 13 million times, making it viral.

Response to Xiaoli’s story was mixed, with some netizens finding her wise, while others criticized the flirty woman for being a shameless person. Some Chinese women wondered how Xiaoli was able to collect 20 boyfriends at the same time and get them to buy an iPhone 7 when they could not even find one decent boyfriend.

Netizens are now speculating what would happen to Xiaoli that her officemate wrote about what she did and many Chinese read about it on social media.
