In a span of one year alone, one in every five teen girls and one in every 10 teen boys in the United States are victims of physical and sexual abuse while dating.

These statistics showed an alarming survey that is only exposed because they were reported. Monica Swahn of Georgia University said, "These numbers are very high and also troubling."

The victims of such abuse tend to be suicidal and more prone to the use of prohibited drugs as a diversion from their situation, according to SoroptimistVictims can also turn to be the person responsible for physical and sexual abuse, something parents should know in order to save and stop their children from being the victim or the abuser.

According to Health Day, the physical and sexual abuse these teens experience can also lead to long bouts of emotional and mental struggles. The extended process of gathering these facts was derived from the U.S government's yearly Youth Risk Behavior Survey. In the latest data gathered, out of the 13,000 students, with three quarters of them who admitted to be dating, 21 percent of them were about females who experienced dating violence and 10 percent in males.

Survey questions have been revised yearly in order to see whether the level of violence is increasing to a certain level or it has dropped to a point.

Emily Rothman of Boston University School of Public Health viewed the situation as a parent, school liability. Parents should examine themselves and evaluate their presence in their children's lives. She also added, "Am I talking to the teens in my life about the importance of respect in a dating relationship?" She also explained that educating teenagers about dating violence should not be left out, and it is the parent's main priority to educate their children about the dangers of dating.
