"Destiny 2" has been confirmed and Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said that they aim to targeta wider audience with the game sequel although no specifics were given.
It does not mean that "Destiny 2" will forget about their current fanbase for the original game. Hirshberg added that they are making it to appeal for both the existing players and those who are not familiar with the game yet.
With the oversaturated market of shooters, "Destiny" is one of the many games that do stand out. The popularity of the game has dwindled but it still has a solid following of players that still log in every day.
Hirshberg said that they are confident in Bungie's ability to dish out new content for "Destiny 2" in 2017, GameSpot has learned. He admitted that they were not able to catch up with the demand for new content in the current "Destiny" title.
"Going forward, along with our partners at Bungie, we've put together what we believe is a very smart approach that will allow us to deliver that steady stream of great content to keep our players engaged and keep the universe alive and growing in the wake of that sequel," said Hirshberg.
"Destiny 2" has not been announced officially and fans are still waiting for even just a teaser trailer of what's to come. The game has been anticipated for several years now but was delayed due to some internal problems.
Hirshberg confirmed that they are still on track to release "Destiny 2" in 2017, VG247 reported. No release date has been given but fans should expect it to be out by next year.
More content are also expected but the executive has not dived into specifics such as would there be any new playable characters, enemies, weapons or game modes. "Destiny 2" could also see a new setting if Bungie is bold enough to do so.
"Destiny 2" is expected to launch across the PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and even the PlayStation Pro. No news of support for the Nintendo Switch has been reported and it seems highly unlikely considering that the production was already delayed.
