Television viewers’ negative reaction to the premiere episode of “Walking Dead” season 7, aired on Oct. 22, has died down. After the fatal beating of Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) and Glenn (Steven Yeun) using Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) bat, fans of the series could expect another brutal episode this week.
According to TVguide, this week’s episode titled “The Cell” would have Negan’s men torture Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus). He was trapped in a cell at Negan’s Sanctuary and tortured to break him down, according to Comicbook.
Among the hardships that Daryl underwent are he would be stripped naked, forced to listen to uber cheery music and fed dog food sandwiches.
Reedus, by choice, agreed to wear nothing for the horrifying opening scene when Daryl was stripped physically and emotionally by The Saviors. When he came to the set, wardrobe asked Reedus if her wanted to wear a sock over his genital, but he rejected the offer of a cover for his manhood.
“I just went in, naked. It's funny though, it's kind of like watching a tennis match. I sat down naked in front of the whole camera crew, and everyone's head just moved to the right. It was like they were watching Wimbledon,” the actor recounted to TVguide.
Reedus admitted the scene was physically and spiritually draining not just on him but also the crew. But he said there were no jokes about his nakedness while shooting the scene.
Co-actor Austin Amelio (Dwight) is hats off to Reedus whose naked torture scene was very dark. He said Reedus was so vulnerable and just being absolutely tortured which is not an easy thing.
While Reedus – who ran stark naked during the shooting for the premiere episode of season 6 – was really not wearing a stitch when he shot the torture scene, the sandwich he ate was not really dog food and the excessively cheery music viewers would hear was not really played on the set.
“The Walking Dead” airs every Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
