Android devices are starting to chew in Nougat with the LG G5 becoming the first non-Google flagship to jump from Marshmallow to version 7.0 of Google's latest mobile operating system. At the same time, fresh firmware builds are now ready for both the Nexus 2015 handsets and their sequels - the HTC-made Pixel and Pixel XL.

In keeping with its goal of providing the "most up to date mobile experience," LG is now rolling out the Android 7.0 Nougat upgrade to all LG G5 users but the deployment will phased with South Korea jumping from Marshmallow first. Then in the next few weeks, the Korean device makers assured that key markets will follow suit with North America and Asia already on the priority queue.

As reported by WCCFTech, Nougat was first seen in an LG device via the freshly issued LG V20 but it is the G5 that debuted Android 7.0 first coming from Marshmallow. "Launched earlier this year, the smartphone is the first non-Google device to get the upgrade to Android 7.0 Nougat," the report said.

True enough, LG outpaced rival Samsung as the latter is yet to deliver Nougat to its current flagships - the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. The latest word from the company is that both devices are ready for selected beta testing, which indicated that it could still be weeks of waiting before general deployment of Android Nougat will take effect for the S7/S7 Edge.

And as expected, the now labelled collectively as Google devices - the Pixel and Nexus models - are getting the first crack on whatever new about Android Nougat. In the case of the Nexus 2015 or the Huawei-made Nexus 6P and the LG-built Nexus 5X, the latest firmware are builds NRD91N and NBD91K, which remain in the Android 7.0 Nougat zone.

For the Pixel and Pixel XL, the firmware updates are NDE63X and NDE63V that in turn are within 7.1 or the Nougat version that came out of the box with the 2016 Google flagship phones. The firmware bumps will be delivered over the air and all users, which apply to Nexus and Pixel owners, will receive an alert once the update - mostly of security fixes - is ready to download and install.

But for the impatient, a separate report from WCCFTech provided an easy guide on how to get the latest Android Nougat flavor through manual flashing.
