The New York Knicks could consider trading Derrick Rose amid the reported turmoil within the team following a slow start to the 2016-2017 regular season.

The Knicks have yet to showcase what is expected of them this season. Derrick Rose's in New York has addressed the team's need of a reliable point guard, but so far, his addition has not yield good results for the Knicks early in the season because of his inability to thrive in Phil Jackson's triangle offense.

According to ESPN's Ian Begley, Knicks president Phil Jackson wants to see more of his renowned triangle offense being utilized by the team, but players like Rose is having difficulties embracing such offensive schemes.

"According to sources, some Knicks players have expressed their displeasure over the offense because they feel it doesn't suit their personnel, particularly point guard Derrick Rose, who has traditionally thrived when using pick-and-rolls," Begley wrote.

Rose has been very effective orchestrating pick-and-roll plays during his stint with the Chicago Bulls. The three-time All-Star also contributes well on fastbreak opportunities and isolation plays. It would probably take time for Rose to get accustomed on playing the triangle offense, but such approach on the offensive end marginalizes the need of a star point guard like Rose.

So far, Rose is posting solid numbers playing Jeff Hornacek's offensive books, with the 28-year-old point guard averaging 16.0 points per game, while shooting 45.7 percent from the field, including 40 percent from the three-point area. However, if the Knicks pursue a triangle-heavy offense and Rose fails to flourish from it, trading him could become a possibility.

Rose, who is playing the final year of his five-year $94.3 million contract, is set to become a free agent next summer. If the Knicks do not see him as a long-term fix at the point guard position, they could trade him before the deadline.

But considering Rose's trade value, there could only be a few teams interested in acquiring an injury-prone guard. It is hard to see teams gambling on a potential one-year rental, but the Cavs seems a fitting destination for Rose, who could play a backup role behind Kyrie Irving. The Pelicans and Kings are also in need of a point guard who can maximize the talents of Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins.

At this point of the season, it is too early for the Knicks to hit the panic button. But if the Knicks are still underperforming by midseason, it is possible for the team to explore the trade market.
