Traffic in capital cities are often horrible that so many hours and so much fuel have been wasted. In China, where gridlock is one of the worst, some 30 women in north China found a creative and healthy way to while away the hours while waiting for the long queue of cars to move.

BBC reported that these women started to dance beside their unmoving vehicles rather than get angry at the situation where they are stuck for hours before they reach their destinations. The video has gone viral in Chinese social media by getting more than 7 million views.

According to The Telegraph, the women did a square dance routine on the highway amid heavy fog which caused the long queue of vehicles.

It also received a lot of comments, including both positive and negative. Chinese newspapers gave their thumbs up to the creative way the women spent their time during traffic but did not mention the music which the women travelers were dancing is a Cantonpop song, a 1990s satire about Hong Kong’s return to China.

Among the praises the dancing women received include complimenting the group for “transforming the sorrow brought by the traffic jam into the happiness of dancing.” Another Chinese netizen wrote, “They can absorb the smog for the country and do exercise, killing two birds with one stone.”

In an online survey of 264 The Telegraph readers, 27 percent agreed with the women that dancing is the best way to ass time in a traffic jam. Another 24 percent preferred to do a car karaoke session, 21 percent want to play motorway football, 15 would play ‘I Spy” and 13 percent update their Facebook and Instagram accounts.

Older or retired Chinese women are known for their love of dancing, often in public places.
