Hull City was thrashed by erstwhile bottom-dwellers Sunderland, 0-3, on the road at the Stadium of Light last Saturday, as per The Guardian.

It was an embarrassing loss for head coach Mike Phelan's side as the surging Black Cats pulled off their biggest win so far in the season.

English forward Jermain Defoe netted the opening goal of the contest in the 34th minute to give the hosts a one-point lead at the break. Nigerian forward Victor Anichebe then hit a brace in the second half, in the 62nd and 84th minutes, to complete the hosts' three-goal haul.

It was the fifth loss in six matches for the Tigers, who remained in the 18th spot of the 20-team English top flight table. The team is currently included in the bottom three relegation area where they are at risk of getting demoted back to the Football League Championship next season.

Meanwhile, West Brom is on a two-game winning run to move up to the ninth spot in the overall standings after 12 rounds of Premier League competitions.

Their most recent game was a lopsided 4-0 victory over newly-promote side Burnley on Monday at their home ground of the Hawthorns, BBC Sport reported.

Four different players of head coach Tony Pulis' crew netted a goal each en route to the Baggies' four-goal masterpiece.

Scottish midfielder Matt Phillips opened the scoring in the fourth minute while compatriot James Morrison doubled the lead in the 16th. Team captain Darren Fletcher made it a 3-0 lead at the break before Venezuelan striker Salomon Rondon hit the team's fourth goal in the second half.
