The medical drama "Romantic Doctor Kim" has been enjoying strong TV ratings since the SBS series premiered in early November. Recently, Seo Hyun Jin's drama posted nationwide viewership shares of close to 20 percent.
"Romantic Doctor Kim" features an interesting storyline about the famous doctor Boo Yong Joo (Han Suk Kyu) who moved from the city to a remote hospital after a traumatic experience. After changing his name to teacher Kim, the former Seoul surgeon trains doctors such as Yoon Seo Jeong (Seo) and Kang Dong Joo (Yoo Yeon Seok) to become physicians with integrity and a moral code.
After three weeks on the air, the SBS drama is close to reaching the 20 percent TV rating mark. Episodes 5 and 6 posted strong nationwide viewership ratings of 16.5 percent and 18.9 percent, respectively, according to Nielsen Korea, as cited by Korea Herald.
Released on Nov. 21 and Nov. 22, "Romantic Doctor Kim's" nationwide viewership share is an improvement from the previous week's TV ratings. Episode 3 achieved ratings of 12.4 percent, while episode 4 posted a viewership share of 13.8 percent.
Meanwhile, competitor dramas in the same Monday and Tuesday timeslot showed single-digit TV ratings. The second episode of the MBC series "Night Light" that aired on Nov. 22 posted viewership ratings of 6.3 percent, while episode 10 of the KBS drama "The Man Living in Our House" reached 3.9 percent.
In other news, "Romantic Doctor Kim" recently topped the weekly TV popularity chart named Content Power Index (CPI). With a score of 250.1, the SBS drama nabbed the first spot for the period of Nov. 7 until Nov. 13, according to Nielsen Korea and entertainment firm CJ E&M, as cited by Yonhap News.
The variety program "Infinite Challenge" landed at number two, followed by the romantic comedy series "Jealousy Incarnate." The two South Korean TV shows posted scores of 249.4 points and 245.9 points, respectively.
