After seven years, the Kpop girl band 2NE1 was officially disbanded, although the past few months the group has not performed together. Besides the expiration of the girl band’s contract in May 2016, YG Entertainment, the group’s manager, cited Minzy’s leaving the band earlier as the reasons why it disbanded 2NE1.

YG admitted that since 2NE1, South Korea’s first girl group, was its representative group, the talent agency company was upset and disappointed with the disbandment. After a long discussion among YG officials, they decided it was difficult to continue promoting the popular girl band because of the members’ different schedules, Allkpop reported.

Since CL and Dara renewed their contracts in May with YG, the company would continue to focus on promoting them as solo performers. Park Bom also did not renew her contract when it lapsed. After YG’s announcement, hashtag #TheYou2NE1 became trending on Twitter, Pep.ph reported.

Fans of 2NE1 left comments on the social media accounts of the girl band to express their support as the four go solo. Dara has gone full circle with her career. She started out as a contestant in a talent reality contest, “Star Circle Quest,” in the Philippines in 2004 where she emerged runner-up.

She had a successful career as an actress and singer in the Philippines for a few years but lost her popularity and projects, so she returned to Korea in 2007. After two years, she joined 2NE1, which enjoyed hits and awards over the years, while touring the U.S., U.K. Japan, and other parts of Asia, including China. Dara is now a judge at another talent reality search show in the Philippines, “Pinoy Boyband Superstar.”

Meanwhile, YG also announced that Nam Tae Hyun is no longer a part of the group WINNER. He has been struggling from mental problems since he was young which makes recovery and return to the band unpredictable and impossible for Nam Tae Hyun to carry on promotions. His contract lapsed on Nov. 18, leaving WINNER with just four members which YG will not add one to replace Nam Tae Hyun.
