Among the songs included in "The Edge of Seventeen" soundtrack are 80s classics such as Santigold's "Who I Thought You Were" and festival favorites such as Two Door Cinema Club's "Bad Decisions."

"I really was looking for timeless, anthemic, emotional raw tracks - just music that made me feel," director Kelly Fremon Craig told EW. "That was the mission in terms of getting the sound right."

All of the songs were particularly handpicked by Craig and his team. For "Who I Thought You Were," the song is meant to represent Nadine, whom Craig describes as "ballsy, she's out there, she's mouthy, she's punk. She's got guts. So I wanted music that felt like it underscored that."

"That song has always given me this incredible ache when I listen to it. I feel this incredible longing, which I associate with the teenage years," Craig said about putting Angus & Julia Stone's "Big Jet Plane" on the movie. "I liked that as the sort of soundtrack for that moment where she is really aching for him, for a connection, some sort of like, real emotional connection with another person."

The movie also features a track from Billy Joel titled "You May Be Right," which was played during a scene where Nadine and his dad gets into a crash after he suffers a heart attack while driving, which eventually kills him.

"The Edge of Seventeen" has been getting positive reviews. According to the Los Angeles Times, the story centers on 17-year-old Nadine, who goes through a bit of a crisis when her best friend and older brother, whom she resents, begin dating. Having cut off her best friend from her life, Nadine tests the waters and forms new friendships and new relationship with people outside her circle.

The movie also stars Kyra Sedgwick, Eric Keenleyside, Blake Jenner, Haley Lu Richardson and Hayden Szeto.
