According to Forbes, there are several practices by players that lead them in getting banned from the game either temporarily or permanently depending on the gravity of the player's violation.  One of the most common shams done within the game is buying virtual currencies (VC) from other gamers using real cash. Another form of trickery is the so-called "farming" of  VC where players rake in a specific amount of free VC every time they put up a My Player and later on delete them. Meanwhile, some PC gamers resort to bot creation and other autonomous programs that would interact with the game even if they are not playing it.

Doing one of the abovementioned will definitely disable player's "2K17" account for a week to say the least or even for keeps. Nonetheless, If such thing happens, players are advised to contact the game's hotline for assistance and further clarifications. Those who are permanently barred, however, might want to start anew and veer away from repeating the same mistakes.

Concurrently, iDigital Times reported that some famed players of the game may have been wrongfully penalized by 2K's system and have expressed their outrage over social media. 2K's Chris Manning then responded over Twitter stating that 2K is looking into things to straighten the issue out.
