The release date of Robert De Niro's comedy "War With Grandpa" is set on Oct. 21, 2017, by The Weinstein Company (TWC)/Dimension. It was originally planned to open on April 21, which is six months earlier.

According to Variety, director Tim Hill revealed last month during a presentation at the American Film Market that he would start shooting "War With Grandpa" in February in Toronto. The shift was announced by TWC/Dimension along with the August 25 wide release date for Lars Klevberg's horror pic "Polaroid."

De Niro will play a grandfather who takes over the room of his young grandson, becoming the target of the kid's practical jokes in "War With Grandpa," Deadline reported. He joins "Nine Lives" star Christopher Walken, "American Reunion" actor Eugene Levy, and "Spider-Man: Homecoming" actress Marisa Tomei to play his character's friends.

"War With Grandpa" follows a boy who is forced to move out of his own room when his recently widowed grandfather moves in. With the help of his friends, the boy devises outrageous pranks to make his grandfather surrender his room. However, his grandfather turns out to be tougher than expected and all-out war ensues.

"War With Grandpa" is based on the 1984 children's book with the same name by author Robert Kimmel Smith. It is produced by Philip Glasser, Rosa Morris-Peart, and Marvin Peart. It is executive produced by Jane Rosenthal and Barry Welsh.

The screenplay of "War With Grandpa" is written by Tom Astle, Lisa Addario, and Matt Ember. Marro Films is producing and financing.

Besides "War With Grandpa," there are other wide releases that have staked out that late October date. Among them include Universal's horror pic "Insidious Chapter 4," Warner Bros' actioner "Geostorm," and Fox's drama "The Mountain Between Us."

Klevberg's horror movie "Polaroid" is written by Blair Butler and produced by "How to Train Your Dragon" Roy Lee, who is also the executive producer of the 2002's "The Ring" and 2004's "The Grudge" franchises. It is expected to be a franchise starter. It focuses on a series of mysterious teen deaths and an old Polaroid camera with a secret, evil history, turning up dead kids after being photographed.
