Marvel's upcoming TV series "Legion" is arriving next year on FX. However, before it does, the show has treated fans to a new teaser trailer and an official release date.

In the newest "Legion" trailer, Dan Stevens appears as David Haller, the son of Professor Charles Xavier. In the clip, David is being treated for his schizophrenia, but it appears that the treatment is causing more harm than good.

"Legion" is taken from the Marvel comic book series of the same name that centers on David. In the FX series, he is diagnosed with schizophrenia and has been "in and out of the psychiatric hospital for years"; however, his life changes when he meets a fellow patient who tells him that the voice he hears and the vision he sees may not be mere hallucinations, but are in fact real workings of his powerful mind.

According to Comicbook.com, David is categorized as an Omega level mutant, making him one of the most powerful mutants in the X-Men universe. However, his multiple personalities make his powers unstable and dangerous.

FX's "Legion" TV series also stars Aubrey Plaza, Rachel Keller, Jean Smart, Jeremy Harris, Katie Aselton, Amber Midthunder and Bill Irwin, Deadline reported. It is executive produced by "Fargo" creator Noah Hawley together with the "X-Men" franchise team led by Bryan Singer, Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner. "Legion" is a collaborative project between FX Productions and Marvel Television.

As per Bryan Singer, "Legion" is part of the "X-Men" cinematic universe, but at the same time the series is said to exist entirely on its own. As David is the son of Professor X, it remains unclear how this will connect him to the current "X-Men" franchise timeline and whether Professor X will make an appearance on the TV show.

It is speculated that "Legion" might also be the precursor to other "X-Men" shows that would connect to future "X-Men" movies.

FX chief Nick Grad teased that the "Legion" Season 1 pilot episode is stunning and driven by the incredible performances of its cast.

"Legion" will premiere on FX on Feb. 8. 2017.
