Kickass Torrents is going to make a comeback soon in a new format as Kat.cr. It remains to be seen whether it can reclaim its popularity and position as the number one torrent website in the world.
Kickass Torrents used to be the number one torrent website in the world for the past two years. It was forced offline in July, when its owner Artem Paulim was imprisoned on many charges of copyright infringement, according to Torrent Freak. As a result, the loyal users of Kickass Torrents were forced to hunt for its alternatives in order to download their favorite torrents.
A good percentage of the users of Kickass Torrents migrated to "The King of Torrents" The Pirate Bay and managed to make it the number one torrent website in the world, again. Other major gainers from the demise of Kickass Torrents included YIFY, Sumo Torrent and Extra Torrent, according to the same publication. 1337x and RARBG also gained noticeable traffic despite the fact that they are banned in numerous countries and their users need Virtual Private Network to access them.
In the form of Kat.cr, Kickass Torrents is aiming to make a comeback in February 2017. Earlier, it used to have an extensive database, which used to appeal to the torrent lovers. Now, it remains to be seen if it stake claim to the number one torrent website spot again or not, because other torrent websites have also enlarged their database in order to attract more users.
The Pirate Bay and Extra Torrent are going to provide stiff competition to Kat.cr, once it launches in the coming months. Dubbed the King of Torrents, The Pirate Bay will also provide the utmost number of services to its users in order to hang on to its number one spot.
In the past, numerous clones and mirrors of Kickass Torrents have tried to make use of the Kickass Torrents brand name. However, they had a very short stint in the torrent world, as most of them were forced to shut shop due to numerous legal issues.
