Netflix's sci-fi horror "Stranger Things" has become the biggest pop culture hit this past summer. Netflix's content chief Ted Sarandos knew that the show would be good but not as big as it is now.

Sarandos revealed he already knew the show was something special, Decider quoted him saying at the UBS Global Media and Communications Conference. The show creators, the Duffer brothers thad pitched it 19 times before approaching Netflix.

The Duffer brothers had a great pitch but did not have much in their track record except for a couple of episodes of "Wayward Pines." Sarandos saw a little-seen Warner Bros. film made by them, an indie film "Hidden." He saw something which made him give the young filmmakers a chance.

"Stranger Things" that features Winona Ryder and Millie Bobby Brown finished Season 1 and is set for Season 2. Reportedly to be released in July 2017, rumors about the upcoming season are scarce. The trailer for the season at least confirmed that Season 2 is forthcoming.

The show will debut new key characters in addition to the current ones, producer Shawn Levy told Slash Film. Australian actor Dacre Montgomery who will star in "Power Rangers" and Sadie Sink of "American Odyssey" will debut in Season 2 as siblings.

As the first season took place in a really short time, or in the course of six or seven days, the next season will continue the happenings in Season 1. The trailer does not contain much of what fans can expect. Episode titles are "Madmax," "The Boy Who Came Back To Life," "The Pumpkin Patch," "The Palace," "The Storm," "The Pollywog," "The Secret Cabin," "The Brain and "The Lost Brother."

The supernatural series is set in 1983 when a group of kids try to solve the mystery behind the strange disappearance of one of their friends, Will Byers. Ryder plays as the missing child's mother who believes that her son is still alive when strange things start to occur around her home.

Netflix is considering the possibility of selling merchandise like t-shirts. It has 30 originals in different production stages. "Gilmore Girls" returned during the Thanksgiving weekend. There is also "Fuller House," Barack Obama biopic "Barry," a miniseries about the pope "Call Me Francis" and the children series "Trollhunters."
