AMD Zen CPU has been widely anticipated for its potential launching in the upcoming CES 2017 trade show. Although there have been no reports of launching cancellation, some AMD users gradually becoming concerned on a reported security glitch of AMD's next generation processors.
Security concern for AMD Zen processors has been found and revealed by scientist from Security in Telecommunications Department at the Technical University of Berlin, Germany, according to computer help site BleepingComputer.
Based on the report tech-experts Felicitas Hetzelt and Robert Buhren mentioned that AMD's system,which is Secure Encrypted Virtualization (SEV), has not been audited until now. Thus, putting future users of the upcoming AMD processors at risk.
SEV technology, which according to report will be shipped along with AMD's upcoming Zen CPUs, has been found not secured by experts, there were some "security" flaws identified based on the AMD SEV documentation.
The technical paper released by experts describing their attacks, showed that a malicious hypervisor forcing the guest to perform arbitrary read and write operations on protected. Aside from that, it also described memory and disabling any SEV memory protection configured by the tenant.
In response to the research and test done by experts, AMD immediately made a reply coming from its product communication team.
"AMD along with the rest of the industry, continues to evaluate new threats and develop responses to them. AMD SEV is just one of the critical ingredients in AMD's security toolbox and the industry can expect to see more security enhancements in the future with our upcoming Naples platform," Gary Silcott of AMD told the TheRegister.
With the assurance given by the company of its security tools, the upcoming AMD Zen CPU in 2017 then might be almost perfect as far as marketing hype is concerned. Guess we would just have to wait and see how Zen processors will outclass or match Intel's Core i7 6900K.
