"Valkyria: Azure Revolution" will be releasing in the West next year. However, the game is being renamed to "Valkyria Revolution" and will also release for the Xbox One instead of just being solely for the PS4 and PS Vita.

The game is set in a follow-up of sorts to the critically acclaimed "Valkyria Chronicles," which is set in an alternate, fantasy-world version of Europe during World War II. It is not going to be a direct sequel and according to IGN is a spin-off that will not use the main franchise's popular tactical RPG mechanics.

Instead, "Valkyria Revolution" is touted as a "whole new entry" that will focus on entirely new characters, a new story and new mechanics. The official teaser trailers showcase a more real-time action battle system with RPG elements, more akin to the "Dynasty Warriors" series.

"'Valkyria Revolution' is also in a sense a revolution from the traditional 'Valkyria Chronicles' universe, as it's set in an alternate timeline based on the European industrialization era and eschews the traditional turn-based strategy gameplay," the developers explain in a report from Kotaku.

Fans looking for a more traditional sequel can experience "Valkyria Chronicles 2" on the PS Vita. A remastered version of the original game was also recently released this year for the PS4.

Music for the spin-off title will be composed by Yasunori Mitsuda, who is known for creating the music for "Chrono Trigger." The latter is often referred to by fans as one of the greatest RPG games of all time and its music has been widely praised, remastered and re-released over the years.

The game is currently scheduled to release in Japan this coming January 2017 and will release in North America in Q2 2017. No specific launch date has yet been announced and an English trailer for the game has yet to be released. Sega has also made no further comments regarding a possible "Valkyria Chronicles 3."
