"Super Mario Run" has officially launched for iOS devices and is scheduled to release for Android in early 2017. While the game only offers Mario as the initial playable character others can be unlocked simply by playing the game. These characters include Princess Peach, Yoshi, Luigi, Toad and Toadette.

Toad is the easiest to unlock as it only requires a player to connect their My Nintendo account to the game, Game Rant reported. Toad is described as a slightly faster character and this is stated to give players an advantage, particularly those attempting to finish stages faster.

Yoshi, Luigi and Toadette can only be unlocked by playing the Kingdom Builder mode and can only be unlocked after several key items have been acquired. These items in turn can only be purchased after getting a number of Toads from the Toad Rally multiplayer mode.

Getting Luigi requires the player to buy Luigi's House. This item costs 150 Purple Toads and 150 Green Toads that can be acquired in the Toad Rally mode. Yoshi requires the Yoshi House and this can be bought with 30 Red Toads and 30 Yellow Toads. Similarly, Toadette requires her house to be placed in the Kingdom Builder and it costs 200 Red Toads, 200 Green Toads and 200 Blue Toads.

According to Gamespot, Princess Peach can only be obtained by finishing all of the 24 stages in the World Tour mode. The World Tour only has three playable stages in the free demo and the only means of playing and finishing the remaining stages is to purchase the full game at $10.

It should be noted that Princess Peach is not a reward for microtransactions but a reward for purchasing the full game. Players can still unlock the other four extra characters even with just the free demo version of "Super Mario Run."

Analysts reportedly expect "Super Mario Run" to earn approximately $70 Million in its first month, even with some players settling just for the free demo version. No official release date for the Android version has yet been announced.
