MGCOOL Explorer 2 has been finally announced. With H.265/HEVC codec onboard, the Explorer 2 is capable of shooting of 4K resolution videos in smaller size.
H.265 that stands for High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) is a successor of H.264 that stands for Advanced Video Coding. H.265 is new coding standard. What is the advantage of H.256 codec support on MGCOOL Explorer 2?
HD or full HD videos consume a lot of space and 4K videos can eat up even larger space. H.265's main advantage over its predecessor is that that it comes with twice the compression ratio and still manages to deliver similar quality.
In other words, a video file with H.256 codec will consume half the storage along with no noticeable change in the quality when compared to a H.256 codec video. In addition to this, when a video file encoded with HEVC is compressed with the same file size or bit rate as a video file encoded with H.264, the former produces considerably better visual quality, Gizmo China reported.
MGCOOL Explorer 2 with HVEC encoding certainly aims at better visual experience without adding up on file size. The Explorer 2 comes with touch-screen, a feature that is only available on action cameras like GoPro Hero and Yi 4K.
MGCOOL Explorer 2 has a 2-inch touchscreen.
The inbuilt 2-inch LCD screen on Explorer 2 carries support for multi-touch. It is situated on the rear side of the camera. With special waterproof cover, the MGCOOL Explorer can be used even under waters at a maximum depth of 30 meters.
Even MGCOOL is taken off the covers of Explorer 2 action camera, the company will start selling the device in 2017. It is yet to reveal the pricing of the device.
