There are a lot of speculations surrounding around The Undertaker heading into the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 33. The latest reports have revealed the possible plans for the living legend next year for two of the biggest pay-per-views of 2017.

The Undertaker returned to television after a nine-month absence on the November 15th episode of SmackDown Live. He announced that he is back to "taking souls and digging holes." It meant that "The Deadman" is back and everyone should be on alert.

However, the 51-year-old superstar has not returned since and many are wondering about his status. According to Ringside News, the WWE is holding off his return to television but many should expect him to appear early in January.

Now, there are a lot of different plans for The Undertaker at the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 33. There was the WWE title match against A.J. Styles at the Rumble, a dream match against John Cena at 'Mania and a Triple Threat Match against the two superstars mentioned, also at WrestleMania 33.

The WWE has not yet finalized the plans for The Undertaker but it surrounds around Cena, per Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer (subscription required). Meltzer noted in his latest report that The Undertaker is expected to be in the Royal Rumble Match.

"The Phenom" is now one of the favorites to win the match on several online betting sites after Meltzer's report. The winner of the Royal Rumble Match is reportedly down to The Undertaker and Braun Strowman.

If Strowman wins, he will likely challenge the WWE Universal Champion. It is going to be either Kevin Owens or Reigns with the latter favored to win the match. On the other hand, the idea of The Undertaker challenging Reigns at WrestleMania 33 is also being thrown around.

However, the most sensible and probable outcome is The Undertaker vs. Cena. It was the original plans for this year's WrestleMania and it has the most pull among the rumored matches since it's a dream matchup for many.

Nevertheless, these are just purely speculative at the moment. The WWE tends to change their plans on a daily basis especially if some information gets leaked online. But expect The Undertaker to show up on television soon, as well as the Royal Rumble.
