The movie will star 2015 Academy Awards and Golden Globes Winner J.K. Simmons (Whiplash), 2015 Golden Globes Award winner Michael Keaton (Birdman), and 2013 MTV Movie Award winner Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers). Tom Hiddleston is going to be the lead human character in the upcoming "Skull Island."

Simmons revealed to Slash Film that a portion of the movie will be set in 1970s Detriot.

"When it first came to my attention, 'There's interest in yo for a new ing Kong,' I thought, 'Okay, why? I met with Jordan Vogt-Roberts who's going to be directing it, and John Gatins who's gonna be writing, and Tom [Hiddleston]," the actor said.

"Jordan was just so passionate and so smart and there's such an interesting new take on it, and it's set in Detroit in 1971 which is where I grew up, and we're gonna shoot in Detroit during baseball season and I'll be able to go to Tigers games, so there's a lot to like about this movie," he continued.

The skull island will present a disreputable chemical company. It may show and explain to the fans how King Kong became gigantic.

According to Film Divider, Jordan Vogt-Roberts' version is a prequel to the three King Kong movies. The film will also involve a rescue mission to the island, with injected flashbacks.

The film is set to be piloted by Vogt-Roberts, together with Alex Garcia, John Jashni, Eric McLeod, and Thomas Tull as co-producers and Max Borenstein and John Gatins as writers. It will be distributed by Legendary Pictures.

Other Legendary films to expect are "Pacific Rim 2" (2017) and "Godzilla 2."

"Kong: Skull Island" was originally scheduled on November 04, 2016. However, the movie is set to premiere in theaters and cinemas (including 3D and IMAX 3D) on March 10, 2017 to give way to the debut of "Doctor Strange."
